MSR is a great product for cleaning heavily encrusted coins and ancient artifacts without using electrolysis! Our MSR solution will slowly melt encrustations without any further pitting and will reveal all the hidden details of your coins and artifacts. It WILL strip the patina from an item if the item is soaked for too long in the solution, so the key is to closely monitor your item when soaking it. Simply remove it from the cleaner and run fresh water over it and brush it off. Then repeat until the item is cleaned to your satisfaction.
It is not necessarily the best product to use on ALL coins and artifacts, as each item is unique and different. It will not bring back details if the details are already gone. But, it is an invaluable weapon to have in your coin and artifact cleaning arsenal as it is superior to many cleaning methods, depending on the condition of the item being cleaned.
MSR is an immersion cleaner. You must immerse the item being cleaned and soak it over time until the desired results are achieved. The cleaning process using this cleaner is similar to soaking for weeks or months in plain water with intermittent weekly brushing of the item. It just cuts your soak time down by a factor of about 10 if used at full strength. So, a 24-hour (1 day) soak is like a 10-day soak in distilled water, as an example. If you find that the cleaner is too strong, you can dilute it with water, maybe try a 50/50 water to cleaner ratio or even a 25% cleaner to 75% water works well. The cleaner can be used over and over, do not discard it after a single use.
It is not a magic wand that you just wave and your item is cleaned. You still have to brush the items and monitor them, much like soaking in plain water.
For cleaning ancient silver coins such as Roman denarii or tiny, nearly impossible to restore Medieval issues? Before using soaks in harsh lemon juice, or vinegar, MSR is your first choice to bring them to glory!

Helpful Tips
- Try to use use circular motion while cleaning
- Do not apply to much pressure on the tip in order to avoid damaging the coin or relics
- Do not apply on a wet coin or object as it may damage patina
- The harder the tip is, the better it wil get rid of hard deposits and dirt.
- The best tool to get rid of the crust is the scalpel; when you reach the surface of the object, use a softer/more accurate tool such as hard tip or brush
- If you have to clean a coin with patina, use the fiber glass brush as it will not damage patina.
