6-Pack of Le Crayon a Gratter Conservator Cleaning Restoration Pencils for Cleaning Metal Detector Finds - 4-Pencil Set
Restoration set consisting of 4 scraper pencils made in France.
- Cleans copper, bronze, silver and gold coins.
- The white fiberglass tip allows you to gently remove soft dirt in open fields, between legends, and reverses details, with no harm or damage to the patina.
-
The black carbon steel tip makes it possible to remove the harder deposits without removing the patina.
-
The brass tip eliminates difficult deposits in the reliefs and legends of coins by slow and gentle probing.
-
The brass scalpel tip allows you to remove the hardest concretions only. Be careful, this tip can scratch your find and damage the patina.
- This set of 4 restoration pencils is a great addition to your cleaning toolbox. We do recommend being very careful when cleaning copper-based items, as it is probably the most "sensitive" or softest metal. The fiberglass and the carbon pencils in this set can be sharpened with a regular pencil sharpener.
Directions and recommendations:
1. The pencils should be used in circular motions. Start gently and then figure what amount of pressure is appropriate.
2. All these pencils can be used in conjunction with liquid cleaners like Mint State Restoration cleaner. The Mint State Restoration Cleaner will help soften any tough crust or concretions while the pencil gently removes it.
3. The fiberglass pencils allow you to remove soft dirt without damaging anything or removing the patina. It is the “softest” pencil in this set.

Helpful Tips
- Try to use use circular motion while cleaning
- Do not apply to much pressure on the tip in order to avoid damaging the coin or relics
- Do not apply on a wet coin or object as it may damage patina
- The harder the tip is, the better it wil get rid of hard deposits and dirt.
- The best tool to get rid of the crust is the scalpel; when you reach the surface of the object, use a softer/more accurate tool such as hard tip or brush
- If you have to clean a coin with patina, use the fiber glass brush as it will not damage patina.
